We combine a self-drive through iSimangaliso, the Panorama Route and guided safari days in Kruger. Animal encounters, a mouse in our tent and lessons from our guide made this stretch full of wildlife, mishaps and useful detail.
Our road trip follows South Africa's coast through penguin colonies, whale watching in Hermanus, Cape Agulhas and the Garden Route. Along the way, we sleep in a train, sail Knysna Lagoon and hike Tsitsikamma.
